VWR-6256 Meta-issue: Bugs that effect C:SI Combat Samurai Island

I just created VWR-6256 Meta-issue: Bugs that effect C:SI Combat Samurai Island to keep track of all bugs that effect C:SI. If you know of any other bugs please start linking as related! Go go go! xD

Linden Lab® wants to break C:SI Dash, reassign keys

I urge *everyone* to go read Takuan's blog post about DEV-4706 Make running more intuitive by double-tapping forward. In a nutshell they want to remap the keys to turn double-tap into run which will break dash and a bunch of special moves in C:SI!

So *please* head on over to PJira and *vote for* VWR-6232 which is basically a petition *against* double-tap to run. *Please* also leave a comment on *why* you're voting.

Spread the word!

Update! Takuan reports that the new viewer with double-tap to run has already been released as an RC test viewer. *Please* vote...we may still have time to fix this!

I'm a masochist! xD

Aimee in Edo Under WaterfallSo like the past few days there has been some amazing discussion on C:SI. Balance concerns on new blades and C:SI in general, gaining an advantage, and excuses have started some interesting threads on blogs and in IM and got me to think more about the system.

But like the one comment that made me write this was from Solace. *waves at Solace* In the Progress Update: Taketori Katana comments I wrote...

But I guess I’m just a masochist when it comes to C:SI.

Cuz like I fight within the rules and etiquette and honor but I welcome people to exploit against me. I *want* an unfair fight. I *want* to have everything tossed at me be it fair or unfair. I have the most fun fighting against people who spacebar and use physics exploits and those exploit attacks against me!

I guess it’s just cuz of my RL…I *welcome* an impossible challenge. ^_^

And Solace responded...

"I welcome people to exploit against me. I *want* an unfair fight." - Your posts make way more sense to me now.

Ha yah I didn't really think about it but like a lot of the stuff I say might sound a little weird or even arrogant if you don't know that's how I feel about C:SI. I love the challenge of extremely skilled fighters who are just plain better than me...and when I fight I want someone to toss everything they got at me.

So like if someone is skilled enuf to have mastered exploits too...all the better! Some of my friends use exploits when they fight me cuz I ask them to...and there are other fighters who use cheats and exploits all the time and I seek them out to fight against too!

And that means I die a *lot*. Why? Cuz it's fun! xD

But like there are dozens of other fighters out there who are a heck of a lot more skilled than I am. They flat out annihilate and destroy me. No cheats. No exploits. No excuses. They are my bar that I compare myself to and they are the ones I strive to beat. And they know who they are. *grins*

Leaving Yakuza and going clanless for a while

Aimee Congrejo on YouTubeGreetings,

For the past few weeks I dunno why but I've been feeling more and more out of touch with the whole clan thing. Like there's lots of little tiny things that have made me want to go clanless...no one thing or person or event or clan is to blame. I just kinda feel I've been distancing myself from the clan so I'm gonna go hide under a rock for a little while. XD

But I'm still the same Aimee! LOL Just cuz I'm going clanless for a while doesn't mean we can't play. =^.^= Just poke me if ya wanna train or play or hang out or whatevs. I still love you guys! *hugz*

So yah, there you have it...this week has been a slow dramas week, so I figgered this should stir things up a bit. Feel free to file this notecard away in yer clan dramas folder. LOL

<3 Aimee

You've gotta aim!

If you've watched my other videos it's obvious that I'm always tracking my targets and looking up and down depending on where my opponent is. This is important cuz simply facing yer opponent isn't always enuf to hit them. You've also gotta look up and down depending on whether they're on higher ground, lower ground, jumping over you, or if yer jumping over them.

This quick video with the Infamous Designs Target Dummy shows how each aimed slash takes off a different body part. =^.^=

How do I jump on stuff?

If you spend any time at all in Samurai Edo or Meiji or any other C:SI Combat Samurai Island sim you'll eventually find someone standing on yer head. Why? Well it means we love you. And also cuz it's fun. LOL Jumping on heads teaches control, precise movement to hit a small target, and how to track yer victims on the ground during jump attacks.

And once you get the hang of jumping on stuff yer gonna find that you can get around nofly zones much easier. Sure you can turn on Debug so you can fly in nofly zones but that's no fun! And you can use a cheater headstand script but that's no fun either cuz it won't help you learn how to jump on stuff. Nope, you gotta do it the hard way by actually jumping and looking down at what you wanna land on! And there are basically two ways to headjump or jump on anything.

The first way is how you do it in combat and takes a lot of timing and estimating distance. Yer not actually trying to land on yer opponents head in combat but instead trying to land just close enuf to them to attack them on the way down or once you land. It's just a normal running jump attack but you start the attack the distance of a jump away from yer victim, look down to see where they are, and attack on the way down. By doing a slash on the way up and a slash in the air the landing slash or kick will be the third hit in a combo doing wicked damage. I'll make a video of this soon.

The second way is how I navigate and jump on stuff all around Second Life and isn't really a combat technique. It's just a cool way to impress friends and shinmai by precisely jumping on heads or buildings or fences or whatevs. And this technique uses spacebar to freeze SL physics to it'd be considered cheating in C:SI combat anyway. LOL

Basically, walk up to yer target and aim right at it with the mouselook crosshair. Then look down at yer feet, tap jump or C:SI double-jump, and tap forward. You'll start to move forward and since yer looking down you'll see the target as you start to pass over it. This is the tricky part...

Once you see yer feet over the target tap spacebar. This will freeze SL physics and you'll stop moving forward and start falling. If you timed it just right you'll land right where you were aiming. But if yer off you can still look around in mouselook and tap movement keys to change direction in midair.

Thing to remember is never actually hold down any movement keys or spacebar...like you gotta tap them otherwise you'll overshoot the target every time or even worse you'll float in midair and that looks really weird. It's a dance on the keys and yer finger is never actually on a key for more than a split second.

  • Jump #1: Walk up to target, aim with mouselook crosshair, look down at feet, Tap-E, Tap-W, Tap-Space, perfect landing!
  • Jump #2: Unsheath blade, aim, look down at feet, Tap-E, Tap-E, Tap-W, Tap-Space, perfect landing!
  • Jump #3: Aim, look down at feet, Tap-E, Tap-E, Tap-W, Tap-Space, oops too far! Turn around, Tap-W, Tap-Space, shaky landing! *cry*
  • Jump #4: Aim, look down at feet, Tap-E, Tap-E, Tap-W, Tap-Space, perfect landing even tho I was looking around when I landed.
  • Jump #5: Aim, look down at feet, Tap-E, Tap-E, Tap-W, Tap-Space, shaky landing right on the edge of the post.
  • Jump #6: Aim, look down at feet, Tap-E, Tap-E, Tap-W, Tap-Space, undershot it! Tap-W, Tap-Space, on target! *grins*
  • Jump #7: Aim, look down at feet, Tap-E, Tap-W, another shaky landing on the edge of the post. *pout*
  • Jump #8: Aim, look down at feet, Tap-E, Tap-W, Tap-Space, finally a clean landing! \o/
  • Jump #9: Aim, look down at feet, Tap-E, Tap-W, right on the post! Wooooo! *purrs*
  • Jump #10: Aim, look down at feet, Tap-E, Tap-W, Tap-Space, another clean landing! *dance*

C:SI combat and animation overrides (AOs)

Takuan has a great post about how AOs break C:SI combat animations and how stuff like landing and stand anims can mask blocks and sometimes even attacks so yer opponent can't tell what yer doing. You know what I'm talking about, like when you slash at someone who's just standing there in a cool pose and you hear a block clang even tho they're not blocking? Yah, that's cuz their stand is masking their block. =^.^=

Now I got mixed feelings on this cuz when I fight someone I like to keep on my toes. If they got an AO that masks their anims, *I* don't care. If they use physics exploits, *I* don't care. If they spacebar, *I* don't care. I say let them throw everything they got at me including AO masks and exploits cuz the harder my opponent is the harder I gotta work to adapt to fight them. Sure that means I rack up a lot of deaths but if I can adapt to my opponent's exploits and cheats that means I can adapt to anything. After all, there are no rules on the battlefield. LOL

But like when it comes to tourneys and matches and honorable spars where there are set rules, yah, AOs that mask anims shouldn't be used. Everyone should be on the same level and have the ability to know that what they're seeing is actually what their opponent is doing.

When this first came up in the C:SI Forums a few months ago I chimed in about how I used a Combat card in my ZHAO-II that only has a few anims. Falling, Flying Up, Flying, Hovering, Jumping, and Running. And I made sure the Jumping anim didn't mask jump attacks.

[ Standing ]
[ Walking ]
[ Sitting ]
[ Sitting On Ground ]
[ Crouching ]
[ Crouch Walking ]
[ Landing ]
[ Standing Up ]
[ Falling ]ED Bishounen Falling
[ Flying Down ]
[ Flying Up ]ED Bishounen Fly Up
[ Flying ]ED Bishounen Fly
[ Flying Slow ]
[ Hovering ]ED Kunoichi Hover
[ Jumping ]ED Kunoichi Jump
[ Pre Jumping ]
[ Running ]ED Kunoichi Run
[ Turning Right ]
[ Turning Left ]
[ Floating ]
[ Swimming Forward ]
[ Swimming Up ]
[ Swimming Down ]

So like if you've got a ZHAO-II just make a Combat card just for fighting! You can still have yer cool cards for standing around and chatting and stuffs but just load the Combat card before a fight so yer anims don't interfere! =^.^=
